He's the Broncos' new money man.
One of Brian Xanders' chief roles as assistant general manager will be to make sure the salary cap doesn't get unwieldy - not only now, but a decade down the road.
He'll work with Jim and Jeff Goodman, as well as Mike Bluem, the cap administrator, to streamline the front-office process.
"I believe we're in the same boat rowing in the same direction trying to help the franchise win," Xanders said.
The 37-year-old spent the past 14 years with the Atlanta Falcons. He has been heavily involved in contract negotiations the past eight years and was pivotal in making Jamaal Anderson the first top-10 draft pick to sign last year.
Xanders will be the point man for a No. 1 selection this year.
He'll head talks with representatives for offensive tackle Ryan Clady, with an assist from Jeff Goodman.
Overall, the Broncos will continue to use a group approach to draft-pick negotiations.
"We're going to be proactive and usually what happens timewise is, a lot of the lower-round deals get done and in July it all fills in," Xanders said.
