ASK!: A work in progress

Rich, of Aurora, was curious about the project under way in the median of Pena Boulevard near Denver International Airport that to him looks like huge speed bumps.

It looks to me like a motocross track, Rich. What we're seeing is a landscaping job that has been planned for some time but was back-burnered when events such as 9/11 and United Airlines' bankruptcy dramatically affected airport finances. The project will include the low hills you see and vegetation typical of the high plains, such as native grasses, said DIA spokesman Chuck Cannon.

Irrigation is planned to help the new landscape get established, but after a few years the spigot will be turned off and it will be up to Mother Nature to keep it going, Cannon said.

Here's a new question:

In the neighborhood next to ours a sign is posted that says "Local traffic only." What is considered local traffic? What are the legal ramifications if it's determined you aren't local but are using the public roads? - Susan

In the good old days ( you know, when you didn't have to have two wage earners to survive and we had SERVICE from our gas stations and CIVIL SERVANTS ), they used to post NO THRU TRAFFIC signs to indicate that LARGE TRUCKS shouldn't use this route.
You know, the semi trucks and other large vehicles who wouldn't be able to turn around easily in that area.

This sign is just a PC update of that old COMMON SENSE sign...
